Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s main opposition party, BJD, has decided to oppose the Waqf Bill to be brought by the BJP government in the Parliament.
The decision was announced by BJD president Naveen Patnaik while addressing the concluding session of the BJD Minority Cell meeting in Bhubaneswar on Thursday.
Stating that Odisha is known for harmony and brotherhood, Naveen appealed to the party workers and the people of the state to preserve social harmony as peace fosters development.
“We are proud of our cultural diversity. Cooperation of everyone is required to build a prosperous country,” the former chief minister said.
He further said people belonging to minority communities have been regularly meeting him. “They have expressed their insecurity in the present scenario. Considering their apprehensions, the BJD has decided to oppose the Waqf Bill in the Parliament,” he added.
