Bhubaneswar: The Republic of Maldives has appointed Odia technocrat-turned-entrepreneur Bobby Mohanty as its Honorary Consul in Mumbai.
President Ram Nath Kovind has recognised the appointment of Bobby Mohanty on December 3. His tenure is valid till November 14, 2023.
Mohanty’s appointment is significant as India-Maldives relationship has been on the upswing since the past two years.
India aspires to work closely for the realization of Maldives’ developmental priorities, especially in areas of infrastructure, health-hygiene, connectivity, disaster management and human resources. Maldives has also been the biggest beneficiary of the Indian government’s COVID-19 relief among its neighbours.
“I shall usher in a new era of cooperation between India and the Maldives. I shall also strive to be the bridge to enhance business and social ties between Delhi, Mumbai, Odisha and the Maldives,” said Mohanty through a release.
He said he would foster bilateral ties and investment in the areas of core infrastructure, travel and tourism, maritime, medical tourism, education, healthcare, defence, technology, and emerging businesses.
Mohanty is a member of India International Centre, New Delhi as well as of OCA Club in Cuttack.
He completed his Master’s degree in Science and Technology from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. He has been involved in philanthropy and social activities through the Bobby Mohanty Foundation Trust since 2004.
