Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has expressed deep shock at the death of National Bravery Award winner Situ Mallick (16) in a tragic road accident in Kendrapara.
The Class X student and his cousin Bapu Mallick were killed when a truck collided with their two-wheeler near Jari Chhak at Rajanagar on Friday. Situ was riding pillion and they both died on the spot. The impact of the collision was such that the truck overturned, leaving three others injured.
The Chief minister conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of the kin of the deceased.
Situ Mallick had received National bravery Award this year for saving his paternal uncle Binod Malik from the jaws of an estuarine crocodile that had sneaked into the village pond on February 20, 2018.
A student of Basudebpur Vidyapitha at Kandira village in the district, he had received the Bravery Award from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 23.
