Bhubaneswar: With a gradual fall in the COVID-19 positive cases in Odisha, the pandemic trend is most likely to recede in the state in June, the Director of Public Health, Niranjan Mishra, hinted on Monday.

“The COVID-19 situation in Odisha, which was alarming during the early part of May, has shown a declining trend from the last week of this month. We hope that the situation will not be that alarming next month,” Mishra told the media.

On further extension of the lockdown by the state government, the official said the effect of a lockdown can usually be gauged after four weeks.

“We are now witnessing the effect of the lockdown as the test positivity rate (TPR) in Nuapada, Gajapati and Sundargarh districts has come down to below 10 per cent and as a result, the state government has relaxed the lockdown restrictions in these districts. Considering the decline in the TPR, we should not question the lockdown decision taken by the state government,” Mishra pointed out.
