Bhubaneswar: The active COVID-19 tally touched eight in Odisha on Thursday with three new cases being detected in the last 24 hours, according to state-wise data shared by the Health Ministry.
There was a lull after one case was detected in the state on December 3 amid the emergence of JN.1, a new sub-variant of Omicron, which is currently pushing the nationwide tally. The remaining seven infections have been reported in the last one week.
According to Public Health director Niranjan Mishra, as many as 690 samples have been tested in the last 24 hours of which three were found positive for COVID-19.
All active cases are in home isolation with mild symptoms. The patients are not showing any critical symptoms and there is nothing to panic, he said.
The government has advised the elderly people and those with co-morbidities to wear face masks while going out and avoid visiting crowded places.
The number of active cases in India stands at 3,742. The country saw a single-day rise of 752 coronavirus infections last week. Twenty-two cases of JN.1 have been detected in the country.
