Bhubaneswar: President-elect Droupadi Murmu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat in Delhi on Monday. She will then make her way to Parliament where she will be sworn in as the 15th President of India.
Murmu will be administered the oath of office to the highest constitutional post of the country by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana. The ceremony is set to begin at 10.15 am in the Central Hall of Parliament. This will be followed by a 21-gun salute.
The former Jharkhand governor and Odisha native will be India’s first tribal president and also the youngest to occupy the top post.
The ceremony of assumption of office will be attended by Chairman of the Rajya Sabha M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, members of the Council of Ministers, state Governors, Chief Ministers, Heads of Diplomatic Missions, Members of Parliament and principal civil and Military Officers of the Government of India.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and all MLAs from Mayurbhanj will also be attending the oath-taking ceremony.
