Bhubaneswar: Odissi dancer Sonal Mansingh and three others have been selected to receive the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi award, which was declared on Tuesday.
The other three, who will receive the award, are Zakir Hussain, Jatin Goswami and K Kalyanasundaram Pillai.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards will be conferred by the President at a special investiture ceremony.
The honour of Akademi Fellow carries a purse money of Rs 3,00,000 and Akademi Award carries Rs 1,00,000, besides a Tamrapatra and Angavastram.
Sonal Mansingh was trained in Odissi dance by Kelucharan Mohapatra. She is fondly referred to as the daughter-in-law of Odisha as she had married Lalit Mansingh.
The Sangeet Natak Akademi’s General Council also selected 44 artists from the fields of music, dance, theatre, traditional/folk/tribal music/dance/puppetry and overall contribution/scholarship in the performing arts for the Akademi Puraskar for the year 2018.
