Bhubaneswar: More skeletons are tumbling out of the closet of Odisha’s Don Juan, who conned 17 women into marriage and then swindled their money.
Commissionerate Police on Thursday conducted a raid on a house at Sai Paradise at Patrapada here, which he had rented in November last year.
The owner of the house told the media that Ramesh Swain had identified himself as deputy director of a department of a Health Ministry and paid him two months advance of Rs 20,000.
“He had rented the house for his sister and her in-laws. The security guard had informed that an elderly man and woman once shifted furniture to the house. But none has stayed here since then,” he said.
Speaking to the media, a police officer said that increment documents and files have been recovered from the house. “It appears as if they were engaged in some clandestine business,” she said.
After 38 years, the fake doctor, who had made a career out of marriages by targetting educated, well-to-do and highly placed middle-aged women through matrimonial sites, ran out of luck on Valentine Day on Monday when he was arrested by the police based on the complaint lodged by one of his wives from Delhi.
He travelled across the country seeking such matches and spent most of his time with one of his wives at Guwahati, Assam, police said.
Earlier in the day, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar Das had informed that Swain was a matric fail.
