Berhampur: Odish’s first Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train chugged out of Berhampur railway station on Friday.
According to ECoR sources, 68434/68433 Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur MEMU will replace 58434/58433 Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur passenger. This is completely a new rake made by Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala.
The train will run six days a week from Monday to Saturday as per schedule of Brahmapur-Cuttack-Brahmapur Passenger.
On Saturday, this train will run as 08434 Brahmapur-Khurda Road MEMU Special from Brahmapur till Khurda Road at 2130hrs. On Sunday, it will run as 08/433 Khurda Road-Brahmapur MEMU Special from Khurda Road to Cuttack at 2345hrs.
Special Service between Brahmapur-Khurda Road-Brahmapur will avoid rush and maintenance facility, the sources further said.
MEMU trains have two engines on both ends and so, no time will be wasted in changing it. Unlike regular trains where a locomotive hauls the coaches, these trains are specially designed with self-propelling motors beneath the passenger cars.
The MEMU train services will be introduced in other sections after reviewing the feedback from the passengers, the sources added.
