Berhampur: The Industrial Training Institute (ITI), here has come up with a digital platform for placement of its former students who had returned from their workplaces in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic.
The institute took the initiative due to large scale lay-off, particularly in the private sector, for economic slowdown in the wake of the lockdown. It targets to benefit the former students, who have returned homes and feel frustrated considering the bleak employment prospects.
“Many industries are in search of manpower and we coordinate with job-seekers and the companies,” said ITI Principal Dr Rajat Kumar Panigrahi.
“We have designed the entire process in 12 steps. We have shortlisted the industries after getting the feedback from our ex-students who are still working with them,” said Panigrahi.
He further said the short bio-data concept, which is followed in IITs during placement, has been developed. A Google form for generating the short bio-data as per the requirement of every industry is designed.
The industries, which have own digital platforms, take the written test while others conduct the interview. After the selection, the candidates are issued offer letters. A meeting with the human resources department of the industry is arranged for the selected candidates and their parents to clarify their doubts.
Finally, the industries approach the district administration through their counterpart to issue the permission for transportation of the candidates.
Till now, Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt Ltd, Bangalore has issued 139 offer letters; New Holland, Greater Noida 51 offers and Freudenberg Nok Private Limited, Chennai has recruited 103 candidates.
Suzuki Motors in Gujarat and Ds Group Plant in Delhi will take the written test and interview. Shortly, LG Electronics and Samsung in New Delhi, Indian Acrylic in Punjab and Welspun in Gujarat are also in the pipeline to join the platform.
“We are expecting minimum 700 offer letters by the end of August 2019 from our institute,” said the principal.
