Odisha’s Jharpada Jail Clash: Wounded Inmate Stable, Eye Injury Not Major, Says DCP Prateek Singh

Bhubaneswar: A small argument between inmates led to a violent clash at Odisha’s Jharpada Jail injuring several prisoners, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Bhubaneswar Prateek Singh said on Tuesday.

According to reports, inmates Chakradhara Barik, Jagannath, Papun walked into Somnath Barik who was coming from opposite direction near the jail canteen on Monday. This angered them and there was a scuffle.

“It led to a brawl and one person was injured near the eye. He was provided treatment at the jail hospital and later at the Capital Hospital, Singh told in a media briefing.

“The injury is not major and the inmate’s condition is stable,” he added.

A case has been registered under Sections 294, 323, 506 and 34 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Laxmisagar police station and a probe has been begun.

The Laxmisagar police will collect all evidences including CCTV footage from Jharpada jail authorities and interrogate other inmates in this regard, Singh told media.
