Bhawanipatna: Kalahandi in Odisha is among the Top-5 aspirational districts in infrastructure development listed by NITI Aayog.
The NITI Ayog, which released its Delta ranking for June 2021 ranked Kalahandi at No. 5 for helping take infrastructure to greater heights.
The other 4 districts in the country are: Siddarthnagar in UP; Chandel in Manipur; Firozpur in Punjab and Uttar Baster Kanker
The NITI Aayog ranking comes on a day the State Cabinet granted approval for renovation and restoration of Upper Indravati Right Main Canal project under the Canal Lining and System Rehabilitation Programme (CLSRP) scheme.
The project has been estimated at a cost of Rs 148.12 crore and the Government has set a target to complete it in two years. The project will provide assured irrigation to 42,455 hectare of cultivable command area in Kalahandi district; Lining of right main canal of upper Indravati will carry design discharge of 50 cumecs of water; and irrigation will be provided to 15,260 hectare in upper Indravati right main canal extension in Kalahandi district.
NITI Aayog monitors the real-time progress of districts. District Information Officers enter data to the dashboard and generate MIS (Management Information System). The districts are being ranked based on progress made (‘delta ranking’) on a real-time basis from May 2018. The dashboard is also open for public to monitor the progress of aspirational districts.
