Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Kishore Kumar Jena struck gold in the men’s javelin event at the 2nd Indian Open Throws Competition in Bellary, Karnataka.
Kishore hurled the javelin to a personal high distance of 78.93 metres to finish on top.
The 27-year-old Odisha athlete pushed Delhi’s Sarbjeet Singh (75.63m) and Delhi’s Abhishek Drall (73.61m) to silver and bronze medal positions.
Odisha Reliance Foundation HPC athletes Manisha Merel and Swadhin Majhi bagged silver medals in women’s long jump and men’s high jump, respectively.
Manisha finished second with a jump of 5.96 metres, behind Kerala’s Sruthilekshmi L (6.11m).
Swadhin leapt 2.08 metres to be joint-second with Bengal’s UK Roy, with Maharashtra’s Sarvesh (2.24m) taking gold.
