Bhubaneswar: Sun Temple in Odisha’s Konark is likely to host one of five key meetings, focusing on the “culture track”, during India’s G20 Presidency.
India is expected to host over 200 meetings across the country after assuming the Presidency of the G20 for one year from December 1, 2022, to November 30, 2023.
Besides Konark, which is 65 km from Bhubaneswar, the other four proposed well-known monuments and UNESCO World Heritage Sites are Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh), Hampi (Karnataka) and Agra Fort and Taj Mahal (Agra), the Indian Express reported.
The main summit will be held in September at International Exhibition-Cum-Convention Centre at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi, which is under construction and is likely to be ready by mid-2023.
The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an intergovernmental forum comprising the world’s major developed and developing economies—Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, and the US—and the European Union (EU). “During our Presidency, India, Indonesia and Brazil would form the troika. This would be the first time when the troika would consist of three developing countries and emerging economies, providing them a greater voice,” the MEA had said in a statement.
