Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday inaugurated T-Setu, Odisha’s longest (3.4km-long) bridge over Mahanadi in Cuttack district.
The bridge built at a cost of Rs 111 crore connects Gopinathpur in Baramba with Baidweswar in Banki. It will greatly benefit the people of Cuttack and Khurda districts, cutting the distance by 50 km, and the devotees attending Baba Singhanath’s Bali Makar Jatra in Gopinathpur, Badamba.
Notably, the CM had laid the foundation stone of the bridge in February 2014.
Earlier in the day, police had detained hundreds of Congress and BJP workers including former MLA Debasis Patnaik, as they staged a black flag protest at Banki, demanding Home Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra’s resignation for his alleged complicity in schoolteacher Mamita Meher’s murder.
Saffron party leader Subhranshu Mohan Padhi and other workers were taken into custody from the party office.
