Bhubaneswar: A 12-km stretch from Nayagarh to Mahipur under the Khurda Road-Balangir rail project is expected to be commissioned soon.
The commissioner of railway safety will inspect the newly laid broad gauge line on July 25, East Coast Railway sources said.
The inspection will be carried out between 10 am and 5 pm. People staying in the vicinity of the newly laid railway tracks have been advised to remain cautious during this period.
The commissioning of the section will be announced after the inspection is over, the sources added.
The 289-km Khurda Road-Balangir section was sanctioned in 1994-95. As of now, only about 80 km has been made operational. These are the Khurda Road-Nayagarh Town (65.38 km) section and the Balngir-Bhainsapalli (14.58 km) section.
Earlier this week, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal had said that a time frame could not be set for the completion of the entire project as land acquisition and forest clearance were still underway.
