Bhubaneswar: Adding new attractions for visitors, the Nandankanan Zoological Park has included 36 animals and birds belonging to 11 different species in a major expansion of its collections.

Officials said the newly built enclosures were thrown open to the public on October 3 as part of the ongoing State-level Wildlife Week celebrations.

Among the new arrivals are zebras, kangaroos, wallabies, meerkats and tufted capuchin monkeys — species that are seldom seen in this part of the country. The park has also introduced several exotic birds, including scarlet ibis, sulphur-crested cockatoos and three colourful varieties of macaws.

The fresh additions will not only make visits more engaging for tourists but also help strengthen Nandankanan’s efforts in wildlife education and conservation awareness, said officials.

The inclusion of zebras, kangaroos and wallabies is expected to draw special attention from children and first-time visitors. The new enclosures have been carefully designed to create comfortable living spaces for the animals while offering clear and closer viewing opportunities for the public.
