Bhubaneswar: Former first-class cricketer, football referee and noted sports journalist of Odisha Shyamakanta Patnaik passed away due to old age ailments here on Saturday. He was in his eighties.
Based in Cuttack, he worked as a journalist for leading Odia daily Samaja and used to write on sports events when sports journalism was at a nascent stage in Odisha in the 1960s and 1970s. Later he became the News Editor of Samaja.
Mourning his demise, the Odisha Sports Journalists Association (OSJA) has extended its condolences to his family. Earlier this year OSJA felicitated him for his contribution to sports journalism.
