Chennai/Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Padmini Rout was part of the Indian women’s team that trounced Indonesia 6-2 to win the gold at the Asian Nations (Regions) Online chess championship here on Sunday.
The women’s team won the championship despite the absence of top players including Koneru Humpy and D Harika, Tribune India reported.
In the finals, Woman Grandmaster P V Nandhidhaa scored the first point for India, beating Chelsie Monica Ignesias Sihite, while Padmini took down Medina Warda Auilia. R Vaishali and captain Mary Ann Gomes drew their games to secure the first match of the final 3-1.
In the second match, Bhakti Kulkarni, Padmini and Nandhidhaa defeated Aulia, Sihite and Dita Karenza respectively to clinch the gold, the daily added.
