Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s para-athlete Suchitra Parida has created a new national record in javelin throw competition at Khelo India Games in New Delhi.
Suchitra threw the javelin to a distance of 17.23 metre in f-55 category to set the national record and win the Gold medal. The earlier national record of 14.73 metre was set by Sakshi Kasana of Uttar Pradesh.
Sakshi came second in the competition by throwing the javelin for 15.33 metre and won the Silver medal, while Garima Joshi of Uttarakhand bagged the Bronze with a throw of 15.20 metre in the ongoing meet.
Suchitra brought laurels to Odisha by winning gold in javeline throw at World Ability-Sport Games held at Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand earlier this month.
