Bhubaneswar: Paralympic champion Pramod Bhagat won two gold medals at the Thailand Para Badminton International tournament on Sunday.
Bhagat, the para-shuttler from Odisha, won the medals in the singles and doubles categories of the mega tournament in Thailand. In the men’s singles SL3 final, he defeated England’s Daniel Bethell in the first set 21-19.
As Bethell retired due to injury and did not play in the second set, Bhagat was declared the winner winning the gold medal.
He followed it up in the men’s doubles SL3-SL4 category with his partner Sukant Kadam. They defeated compatriot Nitesh Kumar and Tarun 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 in a keenly contested match to win the gold.
Meanwhile, another Odisha player Deep Ranjan Bisoyee had to be satisfied with a bronze medal in the doubles category. Deep and his partner Manoj Sarkar lost to their compatriot duo of Nitesh Kumar and Tarun 18-21, 10-21 in the semifinals.
“I am happy with my performance in the tournament. I was playing well and was implementing everything I had trained and planned,” Pramod said in a press release.
“I hope Daniel recovers soon as it is always fun facing him as he gets the best out of me. In the doubles Nitesh and Tarun pushed up and I am happy the way we responded and finished the match,” he added.
