Odisha’s Paradip Port Achieves 100 MT Cargo Handling In Record Time

Bhubaneswar: Paradip Port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district crossed another milestone by handling 100 million ton (MT) of cargo in a record time in 2024-25 financial year.

Speaking to media persons, PL Haranadh, Chairman, Pradip Port Authority (PPA), said the port achieved the record cargo handling on December 9. “The port completed handling of 100.13 million ton cargo 253 days in this fiscal year. The target was achieved 9 days in advance compared to the last fiscal. While the port handled 100 million ton cargo in 262 days last year, it was achieved in 253 days this year,” he said.

Stating that it was the fastest rate of handling 100 million ton cargo by the port, the chairman congratulated all the stakeholders in the operation. “I thank particularly exporters and importers for reposing their faith in us. Our employees, officers, engineers and stevedores deserve appreciation for achieving the target,” her added.

He further said Paradip emerged as the top port in the country by handling 145 million ton in the last fiscal. “This is for eighth consecutive year that the port has handled 100 million ton cargo. We have already handled 4 million ton more than the last year and aims at achieving 150 million ton,” he added.

Meanwhile, Paradip Port has emerged as one of top three ports in the country in terms of profitability in 2023-24 fiscal.

Informing this in a written reply in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda said Paradip Port’s net surplus was Rs 1571.10 crore during the 2023-24 while the Operating Surplus was Rs 1,512.93 crore.

Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Deendayal Port registered net surplus of Rs 1,836.29 crore and Rs 1,685.61 crore respectively during the financial year, he added.
