Jagatsinghpur: Paradip Port in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district has won the prestigious Sagar Sresth Samman award for 2023 for achieving the highest growth rate among all major ports in the country.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, PL Haranadh, chairman of Pradip Port Trust said the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has announced Sagar Sresth Samman award for Paradip Port in overall performance.
“It is a matter of pride for the port and Odisha that Paradip has emerged as No 1 port in the country. The port has also won the award for cargo growth. Paradip registered highest growth in cargo handling among all major ports in financial year 2022-23,” he said.
The port handled 19.2 million ton more cargo compared to the previous financial year, registering a growth of 16.56%, he added.
Haranadh said the port has also won the award for best productivity. “We were handling 27,000 t0n cargo per ship last financial year. Compared to this, we have crossed 31,000 which is highest in the country in this FY,” he added.
He further said the entire credit for winning the three awards goes to the entire family of Paradip Port including employees, officers, exports, importers, PPP operators, stevedores, shipping agents and the workers’ unions.
