Rourkela: A POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) court in Odisha’s Sundargarh on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for attempted rape and gruesome murder of a minor girl.
The convict Sumit Minz allegedly tried to rape a minor girl of Kantabahal village under Talasar police limits of the district and when she resisted, he first strangled her and then stoned her to death. Later, he also beheaded the body.
According to case record, the incident took place on February 10, 2017 when the 11-year-old was playing with her friends when the accused forcefully took her to an isolated jungle near the village and committed the heinous crime.
The POCSO court also slapped a fine of Rs 20,000 on Minz. On failure in making the payment, he would have to undergo another year of imprisonment.
