Bhubaneswar: Odisha shuttler Pramod Bhagat added another feather in his cap by winning gold in the doubles of World Para-Badminton Championship at Basel in Switzerland.
The finals had Indian pairs at both ends of the nets. Bhagat along with with his partner Manoj defeated Nitesh Kumar and Tarun Tarun 14-21, 21-15, 21-16.
Bhagat was recently nominated for the Arjuna award along with 18 other players.
A native of Bargarh district, he was afflicted with polio at the age of seven.
He clinched gold in the Men’s Singles category at the second Fazza Para-Badminton International 2019 held in Dubai from April 2 to 7. This win helped Pramod to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
He had earlier won a gold in the para badminton men’s singles event at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Indonesia and a bronze each in the singles and doubles event at the 4th Turkish Para-Badminton Championship in May 2018.
