Bhubaneswar: Passenger flight service is likely to commence from Rairangpur in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district soon.
As per a notification issued by the Civil Aviation Ministry, Rairangpur is set to get connected to Ambikapur in neighbouring Chhattisgarh by air via Rourkela with introduction of a passenger flight service.
Sources said Dandbose airstrip located on the outskirts of Rairangpur town has been included as part of Ude Desh ka Aam Naagrik (UDAN) regional airport development programme.
A 19-seater scheduled flight will regularly shuttle between Rairangpur and Ambikapur in the first phase. Airports Authority of India (AAI) has written a letter to Big Charter Private Limited in this regard.
It may be noted here that the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) of the Union government earlier approved the fund allocation for this in its 13th meeting on March 5.
Plans are also afoot to develop Dandbose airstrip at an estimated cost of around Rs 45 crore under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) of the Centre. The project includes a flight terminal building and few other amenities for the passengers, the sources added.
