Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Sagar Ekka clinched gold medal in Boys’ High Jump on the opening day of the 36th East Zone Athletics Championships in Ranchi.
The 17-year-old Ekka topped the competition with a leap of 1.90 metres at the Morabadi football stadium on Monday.
Another Odisha athlete Suraj Gope secured silver in Boys’ Discus with a throw of 43.44 metres.
Both Ekka and Gope thus improved on their bronze-winning efforts at last year’s East Zone meet held at Bhubaneswar’s Kalinga Stadium.
