Bhubaneswar: SOA University in association with Livelihood Alternatives (LA), a social enterprise, is engaged in collectivising farmers of Gajapati district. Debagiri Fed Farmer Producer Organization, located in Gumma block of Gajapati district, is the outcome of such a joint effort.
As part of the market-linkage initiative, the first consignment of pineapples from the fields of Gumma reached New Delhi on Wednesday. Mother Dairy will be selling the fruits through its numerous outlets in the national capital. The first consignment was offered to Lord Jagannath at the temple located at Hauz Khas, New Delhi, in the presence of Union Minister for Education, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan.
Such market linkage not only opens up alternative possibilities for farmers but provides them with a bulwark against distress sale as well as a promise of a better price, said Sambit Tripathy of LA.
