Berhampur: Setting an example on organ donation for the society, a social activist donated his mother’s body for research purpose to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, here.
According to sources, after the death of his 67-year-old mother G Tarimi on Tuesday, Abani Gaya handed over the body to the medical college authorities. Though she had not pledged to donate her body before her death, the family did it for the benefit of medical students and researchers, Abani said.
“The donation of the body will be helpful to the students for their studies and research as the department does not have adequate number of cadavers,” TOI quoted J Sagar Prusty, head of the anatomy department as saying. The body has been kept after being embalmed to prevent decomposition, he added.
Abani is the president of Manabika Adhikar Surakshya Manch which works for healthcare facilities in southern Odisha.
It was the second body that was donated to the medical college in a month and the ninth in the last 8 years.
