Bhubaneswar: Keeping increasing passenger footfall in mind, a new six-metre-wide foot overbridge has been constructed at Bhubaneswar Railway Station. It was built in a record of 150 days.
This is the third foot overbridge and the widest in Odisha. Built at the estimated cost of Rs 4 crore, it connects all platforms from one to six with landings on platforms two, three, four and five.
The existing two foot overbridges were inadequate to cater the requirements and thus, third foot overbridge was proposed and got sanctioned by Railway Board on January 17 this year. There were a number of PF shelters that had to be dismantled, OHE portal had to be shifted and cables diverted. Most of the work was executed at night so as to avoid disturbances for passengers.
The girders were fabricated in workshop while other works progressed at the site. There are three (03) Nos. of girders between PF No. (6 to 4,5) , PF No.(4,5 to 3,2) and PF No.(2,3 to 1).
Formal inauguration will be done very soon. The work was undertaken by the divisional railway manager Braj Mohan Agarwal and divisional engineer Ravi Prakash Yadav.
