Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Fire and Disaster Response Academy (OFDRA) in Bhubaneswar has procured the advanced rescue tender to be used in various disasters besides fire incidents.
Director-General of Fire Services SK Upadhyay inaugurated the rescue tender on OFDRA premises on Saturday. Specially designed to be used in incidents of fire, detection and rescue of people trapped in building collapse and chemical leakage, the van has been procured at a cost of Rs 3.53 crore.
Speaking on the services of the tender, an OFDRA official said it can be used in industrial mishaps, house collapse, hazardous incidents of chemical and toxic gas leakage. It is specially designed to carry chemical suits and equipment kept in 10 lockers. It is equipped with sophisticated gadgets like search camera, life detector and thermal image camera.
The van will be stationed at OFDRA and will cater to emergency services in Khurda, Cuttack and places near Bhubaneswar at a short notice.
