Kendrapada: A video of Block Development Officer (BDO) of Mahanga in Kendrapada district threatening a woman of the other backward class (OBC) to auction her Indira Awaas house has gone viral on social media.
According to sources, Dangi Sethi of Baratha village under Basudevpur panchayat was sanctioned Rs 50,000 during 2017-18 under the scheme.
Since she had partly constructed the house, BDO Nihar Ranjan Mallick, during an inspection to the village on Saturday, threatened to put up a notice on her house for auction.
Expressing resentment over the BDO’s behaviour, some villagers said that he had no power to auction Indira Awaas house of a beneficiary.
“When there is no provision to complete a house in a time-bound manner, the threat to a beneficiary is grossly unfortunate,” they pointed out.
