‘OH Positive’ Man Travels From Rourkela To Angul To Save Pregnant Woman With Same Blood Group

Angul: It takes all kinds of people to make this world. There are kind people and then there are heartless ones. Donating blood to a family member is quite common but to travel from one place to another for a rank stranger is not.

But that’s what Rajat Ekka did on Monday, when he travelled from Rourkela to Angul to save a pregnant woman’s life. Probably he knew how difficult it is to come by the rare ‘OH Positive’ (Bombay (Oh) phenotype) blood group that he shared with the woman.

According to sources, Pramila Behera of Saranga village under Parjanga block in Dhenkanal district was in her full term of pregnancy and a lab test showed that she has low hemoglobin. Doctors asked her husband Muna to arrange blood immediately.

Finding the rare blood group was by no means easy. Muna contacted a blood bank in Angul where he got Rajat’s number.

On being informed, Rajat reached Angul by train and donated blood for Pramila.

However, this is not a first for Rajat, who has donated blood 12 times before.

Notably, very few people in India have this rare type of blood group.

“I am very happy to have donated this rare blood group. Given a chance, I will do it again,” said Rajat.
