Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Human Rights Commission has directed the power distribution company Nesco to pay Rs 4 lakh as compensation to the family of a person who was electrocuted in 2016.
According to sources, Anand Sethi of Kalhandia village in Bhadrak died of electrocution on November 17, 2016. His son Babula Sethi had filed a petition seeking compensation at the OHRC while human rights activist Radhakant Tripathy had moved National Human Rights Commission (NHRC). The OHRC heard both the petitions after the NHRC shifted the plea to it and passed the order.
The OHRC has sought a compliance report from Nesco regarding payment of compensation within 3 months.
It has also stated in the order that if the power utility fails to pay the amount within the period, it has to pay an interest of 9% per month from the date of receiving the order.
