Bhubaneswar: With the man, who resorted to self-immolation succumbing to burn injuries in Odisha’s Cuttack district, the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) has issued a notice to director general of police (DGP).
As per reports, 52-year-old Gunanidhi Bisoi of Sainparua set himself ablaze outside the Kishan Nagar police station in Salepur area of the district on Thursday. He was undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Cuttack where he died of burn injuries on Friday.
Bisoi, who was allegedly thrashed by his nephew over a property dispute, resorted to the extreme step reportedly after no step was taken on his complaint filed at Kishan Nagar police station.
Taking a serious note of the incident, the OHRC registered a case suo motu and issued notices to Odisha DGP and IG of Police on Friday. The Commission directed the police officers to conduct an inquiry into the incident and submit the report at the next hearing of the case scheduled on July 25.
Meanwhile, police have arrested the accused and Cuttack Rural SP B Jugal Kishore has written to the DGP recommending action against the IIC of the police station.
