Angul: An oil tanker and a truck caught fire following a head-on collision near a roadside dhaba at Nakchi on National Highway-55 under Handapa Police Station limits in Odisha’s Angul district in the wee hours on Saturday.
The drivers and helpers of both the vehicles were injured. They were admitted to a local hospital and later shifted to the district headquarters hospital where their condition was stated to be stable.
The incident took place around 5:30 am when the tanker heading towards Sambalpur collided with a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction.
wo fire brigades from Bamru, Angul and Athmallik rushed to the spot and managed to douse the flames with the help of police and locals after a three-hour-long effort.
Following the accident vehicular traffic was disrupted as vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the National Highway for more than two hours.
Vehicular traffic on this route had resumed, till reports last came in.
