Old-Age Home Inmates Benefit From BMC’s Doorstep Vaccination In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday vaccinated 40 elderly people with medical complications at Shri Krishna Old Age Home, a voluntary organization in the capital city’s Old Town area.

A team from BMC — comprising a vaccinator, a data entry operator, a nodal officer and a doctor – went to the old age home at 9.30 am. Beneficiaries were registered on the spot and administered the vaccine.

The BMC team then went to two more centres, located at Nuagaon and Keuta Sahi Chak near Lingaraj Temple, to vaccinate elderly people, with medical complications, living there.

As part of BMC’s commitment to protect vulnerable sections of population against COVID-19, the civic body has taken up the responsibility of helping senior citizens who are unable to visit vaccination centres on their own.

The inmates of old-age home were grateful to the BMC for its gesture.

Priyabrata Nanda, a retired Lecturer staying at Shri Krishna Old Age Home, Tankapani Road for the last two years, commended the efforts of the Civic Body in reaching out to the vulnerable groups in thess times of distress.

“It’s a great help for senior citizens who are staying here and unable to step out due to various health ailments and risk of getting infected. The entire process was smooth. We thank BMC for providing this service in very smooth and hassle-free manner,” said 64-year-old Priyabrata Nanda, a retired lecturer who stays at Shri Krishna Old Age Home.

Zonal Deputy Commissioner (South-East Zone) Ansuman Rath, who supervised and monitored the vaccination drive at the old-age home, later interacted with inmates and their caretakers. He advised the inmates to do yoga, light exercise and speak to family members (staying outside), relatives, friends over phone or video calls to beat the stress, if any.

Four inmates of Odisha Association for the Blind, located at Satya Nagar, were also vaccinated at their premises.

On Thursday, BMC plans to vaccinate inmates of Shelters for Urban Homeless (SUH) in the city.
