Berhampur: In a boost to human organ donation campaign, the family of a septuagenarian donated her eyes after her death in Odisha’s Berhampur city on Friday.
After V Viramma of Chandrama Lane in the city passed away at the age of 74, her family gave their consent for donation of her eyes. Following their approval, Friends Helping Club of the city facilitated the donation of the eyes.
Dr Shriya Chakraborty and Dr Somani Baral under the supervision of Dr Suchitra Das of Eye department of MKCG Medical College and Hospital, Berhampur collected the cornea of Viramma’s two eyes. It would be safely preserved in the hospital to be donated to suitable persons in future, hospital sources said.
It may be noted that Viramma’s husband V Vignesam’s eyes were also donated following his death on September 7 last year.
