Balangir: An alleged attempt to commit suicide by an old woman on a hospital premises was foiled in Odisha’s Balangir district on Friday.
According to sources, the woman, identified as Padmavati Seth of Jharabahadi village under Muribahal police station, had come to consult the doctors in the community health centre at Kantabnaji on the day. She was accompanied by her elder son.
While undergoing treatment in the CHC, Padmavati became emotional on recalling her younger son who has been missing for some time. Unable to control herself, she went to the roof of a medicine store on the campus of the health centre.
Another woman, Sasmita Khura, who had also come to the hospital, saw Padmavati on the roof attempting to jump to commit suicide. Sasmita along with the hospital staff rushed to the medicine shop roof and brought Padmavati down.
Speaking to media, Padmavati admitted that she was going to commit suicide as she had failed to trace her missing younger son. “Despite filing a missing complaint with the police in this regard, I am unable to know his whereabout. I felt emotional and wanted to end my life,” she said.
