Bhubaneswar: The oldest chimpanzee at Nandankanan Zoological Park near Bhubaneswar, Julu, died due to old age-related ailments on Monday.
According to official sources, Julu was undergoing treatment at the zoo’s veterinary hospital for age related ailments. He died at the age of 36 years.
With Julu’s death, the number of chimpanzees in Nandankanan has come down to seven, they added.
Julu was the first chimpanzee to be brought to the zoo from the Singapore zoo on May 16, 1994. Normally, male chimpanzees live for 31.7 years and female 38.7 years.
