Puri: A sudden nesting of Olive Ridley turtles was spotted along the Astarang coast in Puri district on Sunday night.
Sources said forest guards on night patrolling along the coast spotted the turtles laying eggs at two places.
The guards later collected 133 eggs from Devi Nasi and 128 eggs from Daluakani and took them to a temporary hatchery.
Since more number of Olive Ridley turtles are expected to come for nesting along the Astarang coast, the Forest Department has taken necessary steps to protect these endangered marine species.
