Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s hockey star Amit Rohidas was felicitated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi soon after his return from the Paris Olympics where he played a key role in Indian Men’s team winning a bronze medal.
Felicitating the hockey sensation at a special event held in the presence of a host of dignitaries including Ministers, the Chief Minister expressed the optimism that India will be able to win gold medal in the next Olympics with immense help from Rohidas.
Hailing Rohidas as a source of inspiration for the youth, Majhi said the Odisha government will continue to support hockey in a big way to enable India to win more medals and accolades in major international events.
Earlier, Rohidas accorded a rousing welcome after his arrival in Bhubaneswar. Rohidas, who was the only player from Odisha the bronze medal winning Indian team at the Olympics, was felicitated by several organisations for being instrumental in the success in Paris.
Rohidas, who hails from Saunamara village in Sundargarh district, was greeted by fans, family, and officials on his arrival at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar.
It may be noted that the Odisha government has announced a cash reward of Rs 4 crore for Rohidas, while the Indian hockey team players will receive Rs 15 lakh each and the support staff Rs 10 lakh each.
Rohidas, who played a crucial role in India’s success in Paris, dedicated his medal to the people of Odisha and thanked Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their support.
He also expressed his gratitude to his family, coaches, and teammates for their encouragement.
Talking to the media, Amit assured that he will take hockey to new heights in the future.
