Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation (OMFED) has announced an increase in milk prices across the state from October 4.
According to sources, the price of toned milk will increase by Rs 4 per litre, from Rs 54 to Rs 58. The price of the 500-ml toned milk packet will consequently rise by Rs 2.
The price of OMFED premium milk will go up by Rs 2 per litre, from Rs 58 to Rs 60. The 500-ml packet will cost Rs 1 more under the revised pricing.
Similarly, the price of gold plus milk will increase by Rs 2 per litre, from Rs 64 to Rs 66. The 500-ml gold plus milk packet will become costlier by Rs 1.
Officials said the revised prices will come into effect from October 4.
The price hike comes weeks after OMFED increased the milk procurement price paid to dairy farmers. From September 11, OMFED increased the procurement price by Rs 2 per litre to provide additional income support to farmers amid rising production and transportation costs.
The procurement price hike was attributed to a sharp increase in the cost of dairy production, particularly the prices of cattle feed and other essential inputs.
Meanwhile, OMFED is also working to introduce QR codes on its dairy products to help consumers verify product details and authenticity. The QR codes will provide information such as the date and place of production, usable period and instructions for use.
The facility has already been introduced for ghee, while QR codes are expected to be added to paneer, curd and other products.
