Omicron In India: Tally Closer To A Century; Delhi Cases Double In A Day

New Delhi: The Omicron tally in India crept up towards a century on Friday after Delhi reported 10 new cases of the latest coronavirus variant of concern.

The rapid rise in cases is a cause for concern, as the tally of those infected by Omicron has doubled in the national capital in a day. India’s count now stands at 97.

“Ten new cases of Omicron variant have been reported in Delhi, taking the total number of cases of the variant here to 20. A total of 10 people, out of these 20, have been discharged,” Delhi’s Health minister Satyendar Jain was quoted as saying by ANI.

Eleven states and union territories have so far reported COVID-positive patients infected by Omicron variant. Maharashtra leads with 32 cases, followed by Delhi (20), Rajasthan (17), Karnataka (8). The other states with Omicron cases are Gujarat, Kerala, Telangana, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu.
