Omicron Threat: 10 Persons With South Africa Travel History Untraceable In Karnataka

Bengaluru: At least 10 South African nationals who had arrived in Bengaluru between November 12 and 22 are untraceable, IANS reported on Friday quoting sources.

Karnataka is on high alert after India’s first two cases of the new coronavirus variant were confirmed in Bengaluru on Friday.

The state Health department wanted to get all travellers, who may have come in contact with the infected persons, tested for COVID-19.

According to officials, the untraceable South Africans were not found at the addresses provided by them at the airport and their mobile phones were switched off.

A total of 57 persons have arrived from South Africa since the outbreak of Omicron in that country last month.

Bengaluru Police has been approached to track the missing persons.

The samples of those travellers who have been traced are being sent for genomic sequencing tests to check the presence of Omicron strain.
