Omicron Threat: Unvaccinated People Barred From Public Spaces In This State

Bengaluru: A day after the first two Omicron cases were confirmed to have been detected in India, unvaccinated people have been barred from accessing certain public spaces like parks, shopping malls and theatres in Karnataka.

Not just the two Omicron cases, 10 travellers with travel history to South Africa are untraceable in Bengaluru. The state government is on high alert, and issued fresh COVID-related guidelines on Friday.

The decisions were taken at a high-level meeting, chaired by Karnataka chief minister Basavaraj Bommai, to chart an action plan in response to the Omicron threat.

Among the new guidelines, any gathering and cultural event at schools have been prohibited till January 22, 2022.

Strict implementation of the ‘five-fold strategy’ has been advised, comprising test-track-treat-vaccination and adherence to COVID-appropriate behaviour.

No gathering of any kind, meeting, conference, etc. should bring together more than 500 participants.

Also, parents of children below 18, who are going to schools or colleges, should be compulsorily fully vaccinated.

Entry to shopping malls, cinema halls and theatres will only be allowed to persons who have received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
