Mumbai: Rani Mukerji’s highly-acclaimed ‘Mardaani’ completed 10 years of release on Thursday.
The cop thriller, which stars Rani as the protagonist, has already seen two instalments.
Now, there will be a third part of the successful Rani film, produced by her husband Aditya Chopra’s firm Yash Raj Films (YRF).
Announcing ‘Mardaani’ part 3 on its 10th anniversary, YRF thanked Rani for the inspiration.
“10 years of #Mardaani and the next chapter awaits… Celebrating the feisty, daredevil cop #ShivaniShivajiRoy and the spirit of #Mardaani today. Thank you for a decade of love and appreciation for our beloved franchise. We are inspired… again… thanks to you. #RaniMukerji,” YRF wrote on its social media handles along with a video.
Rani plays the role of female cop Shivani Shivaji Roy in the ‘Mardaani’ films.
The fearless and determined policewoman challenges gender norms, with her unwavering commitment to justice making her a formidable force.
‘Mardaani’ was released in 2014, while a sequel hit the screens in 2019. Both were massive hits at the box office.
“I’m excited to see how ‘Mardaani 3’ shapes up as! I am crossing my fingers because I would love to play the part of Shivani,” Rani said.
“I will be very happy and excited if the ‘Mardaani 3’ script comes about really something that we would make a film. Because I as an actor always believe that we don’t want to do a film because it sounds good. We need to do a film when the script is good and when we want to make a film which is making a difference,” she said.
Admitting that she was nervous during the making of ‘Mardaani 2’, Rani said she had never done a sequel before.
“I was like how will it happen? Because I leave my characters behind each time a film gets over and I don’t know if I will be able to reprise that part again. With ‘Mardaani 2’, I was surprised that I enjoyed reprising the part. So now I have tasted blood. So now I want to reprise it again in 3,” she added.
Rani was last seen in ‘Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway’.
