Bhubaneswar: Like the rest of the world, Odisha acknowledged the role of youth in making our planet a better place to live in on International Youth Day, which is celebrated every year on August 12.
Odisha’s Sports and Youth Services minister Tusharkanti Behera said in a message that the state government supports participation and engagement of youth as a strategy for development, social justice and effective citizenry.
“The enthusiasm and ability of our youth is unsurpassed. Their contribution in moulding society is vital. I am confident that with channelised efforts, they are going to lead our nation to new heights. On this day, I urge all our young and spirited minds to harness their talents and potential into meaningful engagement and participation, as their contributions are essential to achieving sustainable human development. I encourage them to leverage their energies and creative ideas into shaping a better future for themselves and their country,” said Behera.
He added that the government has taken up initiatives at several levels, especially gram panchayats and urban local bodies to engage the youth positively. They have implemented several schemes under the State Youth policy 2012 to involve them in different activities in local communities and other organizations in a meaningful way.
Programmes like expedition to the Himalayas, sporting activities, plantation drive, volunteering at events like Rath Yatra, Balijatra, mini Marathon, youth festival, blood donation camp have been organized.
The contribution of the youth has been acknowledged through the annual State Social Services, Sports and Bravery Awards.
