On Valentine’s Day, A Rose Campaign For Protesting Farmers

There was an unexpected Valentine’s Day gift for the farmers protesting against the agriculture laws. It came from a group of global Indian organizations, which launched a rose campaign on social media to express their support for farmers who have been agitating at various border points of Delhi for over two-and-a-half months.

The Global Indian Progressive Diaspora (GIPD) chose Valentine’s Day — observed globally on February 14 – to show their love and appreciation for the thousands of farmers.

“Tweet or Send a Rose to Prime Minister (Narendra) Modi asking to repeal farm laws or Send a Rose to the Indian Embassy/General Counsel in your respective region to express your solidarity with farmers in India. #Rose2Repeal #LoveToFarmers #OneAppealRepeal,” GIPD posted on social media.

The GIPD also wrote to Indian Consulates as part of its ‘Love Conquers Hate’ campaign, reported The Indian Express.

In a press statement, the international community of progressive Indians, from over 12 diaspora organisations spread across the world, said it was extending support to the farmers and their rightful demand to be heard and calling for the repeal of farm laws besides asking for shared governance in reformulating such laws.

“In pursuit of that goal, a broad coalition of partner organisations invites our media partners and fellow human rights organisations to help us amplify voices of support to the farmers and a universal call for peace, unity and harmony in India,” it said.
