Lucknow: In a terrible tragedy, 10 labourers were killed and 27 injured after a pickup van collided head-on with a bus in Salempur area of Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr on Sunday.
The Britannia company workers were heading to their native village in Aligarh to celebrate Rakshabandhan when the ill-fated collision took place on the Budaun-Meerut state highway.
“Ten people were killed and 27 injured when a pickup van travelling from Ghaziabad to Sambhal collided with a private bus. The injured have been shifted to the hospital,” informed District Magistrate Chandra Prakash Singh.
Four of the victims had boarded the van from Dadri.
According to Bulandshahr SSP Shlok Kumar, the injured have been admitted to hospitals in Bulandshahr, Meerut and Aligarh, with the condition of one of them being critical.
Kumar added that the 10 people killed in the accident were men, while those injured included women and children.
Videos and pictures of the incident, shared on social media, showed the van having been reduced to shambles, while the front portion of the bus was heavily damaged.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to ensure the best medical attention and treatment for the injured.
